Shhhh, dont' tell anybody but these are just the mad rabblings and observations of Uncle Jake.

Today is:

PAGE UPDATE

Hello there everybody. If this is your first time here then you won't notice any changes, but, if you are a return reader you will discover that I have rearranged this page entirely and created a Page Two also.
What I have done is just cleaned up my desk and rebuilt this page towards focusing on our local City government and Chamber of Commerce.
The left column is dedicated to keeping an eye on the Chamber and the right column is for the City of Wells. Oh yeah, I will be picking them apart ruthlessly, or as they deserve. I will try not to beat them up too much, yet, I won't be cutting them any slack either.
Therefore, I encourage all of our local residents, including those who live out in the valleys to join in here with their observations, complaints, helpful hints, information on what you know is going on as compared to what they tell us. Let's face it, just because they're in these particular positions doesn't mean they know everything...most often they just act like they do.
So here we go...

Read the Introduction and Front Notes to this page
HERE.

Our CHAMBER of COMMERCE

Changes at the Chamber...
The Wells Chamber of Commerce has a new President along with a few new staff members. The recent departure of the past president, Pax Kelly, has given rise to these new changes and new directions as well.
Pax had to leave her position and the community because of health problems. She and her husband, Tim, have found a new home in Oregon that will cater towards a healthier environment related to her medical and health needs.
The community of Wells wishes her all the best and a big great thank you for all you've done while president of the Wells Chamber.
The new president is Thad Ballard. Thad can be contacted by phone or email found on the Chambers web page...Click HERE!

LETTER to WNOL
From: Tim Quilici

I am flattered that your website has a link to my father's memorial website. However, last month I updated the website a bit and moved it to a new location. (At 13 Mbytes total, it was too large for my 10 Mbyte fee space at ATTBI.) Your websites are linking to the old site that I am about to delete.

Please change the Lee B. Quilici links to: http://LBQ.home.attbi.com

UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE

Did you know that the USPS is classified as an Independent agency of the United States government? What does that mean?
The United States Postal Service is operated by an autonomous public corporation that replaced the Post Office Department in 1971. The Postal Service is responsible for the collection, transportation, and delivery of the mails, and for the operation of thousands of local post offices across the country. It also provides international mail service through the Universal Postal Union and other agreements with foreign countries.
An independent Postal Rate Commission, also created in 1971, helps the Postal Service set the rates for different classes of mail by holding hearings on rates proposed by the Postal Service, and recommending rates to the Postal Service Board of Governors, which in turn may accept or reject the rates. As of February 2006, legislation had passed both houses of Congress greatly increasing the regulatory powers of the Postal Rate Commission. Oh really?
Well, after some intense research I decided to post this rant about the postal service from their beginnings, or history, up and to the present unconstitutional take-over by the U.S. Patriot Act.
One of the most unfortunate things about this is that good citizens who work for the postal service are being subjected to complying with this Act on the false premise of Homeland Security. The bad thing is that they take an oath, the same oath our politicians, military personnel, law enforcement personnel and anyone else who are required to take this oath to work in certain jobs throughout our country...but, it has become obvious that they are just uttering empty words, doing what is required in order to hold their jobs. These particular citizens have become slaves to the new world order and don't even give it a second thought. Why? Because they don't want to lose their job. Bullshit. Since when is a persons job more important than the freedom of American Citizens? When is their job more important than upholding their oath to defend and protect the Constitution of the United States? It's not.
I went so far as to argue these points with a few of these individuals at the Post Office and was told that they would just send my mail back if I did not show them at least two forms of acceptable identification to continue receiving my mail from a post office box, which, of course, had to be written down for later varification that that was who I really was and also refused to even talk to me anymore once I voiced my protest. My protest was falling on deft ears. Those of us who live in rural areas that don't have mail carriers and are subjected to using post office boxes do not have the option to receive our mail at home. Those who do receive their mail at home are not required to show any identification to receive their mail. These people had sold their citizenship and turned their backs on the very Constitution they swore to defend just to comply with an order and to keep their jobs. This is what is happening all over America and it's not only sad...it's downright frightening.

I am currently involved in editing information and histories for you to read about the why and how you are being monitored, logged and filed by your government through your mail services on the false premise of Homeland Security and governed by the U.S.Patriot Act.
Slowly but surely our freedoms are dwindling away and people are just turning their backs on their country and no longer uphold their Constitution.

THE WAY IT IS

These disagreements and arguments our world politicians engage in are not between nations but between governments. These two things are very different from eachother.
A nation is a population of people, their culture and so forth located in a variety of territories throughout the world.
A government is a small group of people who usually represent the best qualities of those people who make up a nation. We call them politicians.
These politicians, as history has continuously proven, do not always work for the peoples best interests. Nations do not argue and make war on eachother - their politicians do.
If this is the best they can do then it's beyond time to eliminate them entirely and move on.

Our CITY of WELLS

It's out there somewhere and we're gonna' find it. We have looked about here and there and so far all we've found is a bunch of old worn out and broken down buildings that are occupied by the ghosts of days gone by.
Wells used to be one hoppin' and boppin' busy little town with activity all over the place. The downtown area was so busy that they even had to install a four way traffic light...now long gone, along with the traffic, the business and the people. This failure to maintain a solid economical or financial base of operation within our community is not fair to those businesses that still manage to hang on, or to those few that have come to town, or those that would come here and by no means with any help from the City.
I know of at least six multi-million dollar businesses that wanted to come in and set up, but, after dealing with the local government they walked away citing that the City was too wishy-washy and got tired of the run-around on everything. They also stated that they were not happy with the way they were treated by the Chamber of Commerce. (former)
Comments from past and current city council members and certain employees have been that people don't care in Wells anymore, basically, they're all apathetic. Well who's fault is that? They never attend City Council meetings, they haven't read any of the newsletters the city use to put out...most of which they just throw in the trash, thus the city decided that this was not cost-effective and quit doing them. What did they do, stand around the post office and monitor everyone when they came to get their mail? How do they know that people didn't read them before they tossed them? Besides, if the people don't care anymore or have become apathetic and they no longer attend council meetings or read the newsletters I would be lead to believe that the problem is not with the citizens of the community but the failure of the Mayor and the Council to implement methods of good quality communication skills to unify the community and not alienate them. This includes past and present members of the local government. Come on folks, even the Mayor has admitted openly that these things have been going on for years so what has he done to correct them? Nothing.
The City just finished their local City government elections and the incumbant Mayor retained his seat as did two of the incumbant council members.
I ran against the Mayor...I did't win, no big deal, but, one of the things I constantly heard from most of the local citizens is that the Mayor had to get out; they didn't like him; he is not friendly to the people and he won't talk to anyone. Are all of these people registered voters? Does that really matter? I guess when it comes to elections and people want actual changes in their community one would be lead to believe that they would at least get themselves registered to vote before they can obtain such goals within their local government and then it would really matter.
Then there are the numbers. They weren't quite right in what these incumbants are resting their laurals on. Percentage wise it is claimed that there was about a 48% turn-out of registered voters at the local polls. Not bad, if this is true. The Mayor received a total of 222 votes. Do these numbers accurately reflect the actual population of Wells? Wells claims a population of about 1350 people. Then this would mean that more than half of the population did not vote for the Mayor. I mean, or it means, that at least 1089 people did not vote. They say I only received about 39 votes. I don't believe those numbers, but, if that's the case...whatever. Therefore, does this reflect back to the comments about the town being apathetic? Perhaps. Then again, it could mean something else entirely. What that is cannot be measured at this time. One thing for sure...I don't think it was a vote of confidense as he or they claim considering how many didn't vote. This applies to the other incumbants also.
Okay, let's be a bit more real about all of these numbers. At least 45% of the local population is under the voting age, 18. Those who are counted by way of using residents with the postal zip code are just outside the city limits, some further. And then the other numbers, those who are registered voters, are barely 500 people. Now look, not everybody voted...so, what are the real numbers right?
Now we'll have to wait and see if this Mayor will continue down the same path as he has been traveling during the past 18 years; 10 on the council and eight as the Mayor, or really take a hold on the seriousness of his position and "really do something for this community" once and for all.
Look at it this way, he's had eighteen years to bring this community back to life, eighteen years to unify the people of this community, eighteen years to create small business incentives, impliment small business growth and raise employment opportunities and revenues. He claims that he ran for re-election on his record of financial stability and stated goals. What financial stability? He said that this was difficult to accomplish following lean revenue years. Why were there lean revenue years? He was the one in office all this time. If you look around town there is nothing visible that has been done short of several piles of rocks with very small letters that has something to do with Wells and of course some of the streets. The City spent over $2 million dollars on street improvements (mainly repaving, which is a good thing, we've needed that for along time) but, most of this project was donated free of charge from left-overs by a paving company that was in the area. He just left that part out. Other things he claims that have been done by his administration are floating around in the air like a pipe dream and have been...yet, there is still nothing tangible on the ground. What does he think he is going to accomplish in the next three and one half (3.5) years that he hasn't done before? Question is, why now? What has taken him so long?
We'll see.
And to add to the mix of all this we have several questions being asked about the City Council and the Heart Foundation. It's all the same people, minus a few council members. What is the Heart Foundation? Oh, that quaint little (majorly expensive) operation that has something to do with a tire recycling plant. Well, they've been at it for several years now and they haven't brought in any loads of tires to be recycled nor have they even melted one down to the statis of what they claim they can do. Where are they getting all of their money to pay people and operate at doing nothing. I don't see that they've done anything with this operation as they presented it to the community years ago and obtained investors to get it going along with more grants. Does Wells survive on grants? Is this the financial stability?
Absolutely more to come...

Uncle Jake's Flashlight
Things I find in the dark...

I'm still looking around...hold on, I found something.

The Reign of Terror-ism
Well, well, well...here we are finshing off almost eight years of war with a country that had nothing to do with the 9/11 events, yet, we headed off to Afghanistan and took a left turn to look for those WMD's in Iraq (of course we knew they were there because we sold and traded them to them- thing is, we wanted to know what they did with them...we wanted our toys back) Saddam, in turn, sold and traded them to other parties of interest in order to obtain food and medical supplies for his people (since he was blocked by international trade embargos by the United Nations), nevertheless, we had to get rid of him too. Afterall, he and his brothers were killing his people all over the place. (Sort of like what was going on in Cambodia and is going on in Africa right now.) What do dead people need food and medical supplies for right?
Since George, Sr. didn't finish his dirty deeds in Iraq well enough to satisfy his Syrian business partners - the duty was passed on to his son, George, Jr.
Speaking of the Syrians, what happened to the hard evidense that they were directly envolved with the 9/11 bombings? Oh, nevermind all that. On with the show...
The United States was served notice that the new Gustapo (Homeland Security) would now be implimented to the well being, safety and security of the American people. Of course, this also meant that the U.S. Patriot Act I and II would also be activated to protect everyones rights - new rights - not the ones already protected in our Constitution as the USPA now replaced that. What this actually means is that this new act would be enforced by the United States Police (oh yes, they do exist...if you do your research you will find these jackbooters are really FEMA and most of their troops are non-Americans. Hmmmmm.
One of the many sad things about some of the Americans in support of this so-called war on terrorism is that they make comments about protecting American freedom when the only thing that is actually threatening it is our very own government. Come on, look at it - it's in a shambles. Nearly everyone of our elected officials have been played into this war with false information and they even admit it. Okay, then why aren't they doing their job? End this madness. Why do they allow this dictator of a President to threaten them with such comments as: "If they pass this bill I will veto it." And he does, everytime. This is stupid and so are they and so are we for allowing this to go on and on and on.

Did you forget that George, Jr. was not elected by the People? He was seated by the U.S. Supreme Court. That's illegal as hell. The only ones who have the legal power to seat a President aside from the People is the House of Representatives. Read the Constitution. This is the Law of the Land.

Did you know that there were and are six different documents of impeachment that have been filed against Bush and his administration? Where are they? What is this black cloud hanging over our elected government? Where is our government?

Did you know that an international tribunal of 136 nations filed charges against President Bush and several members of his cabinet for war crimes, genocide, use of weapons of mass destruction (Depleted Uranium) and several other not-so-insignificant charges such as treason? What will happen to him and them? If they show up in these countries they will be arrested. Arrest the President of the United States? Yes. It can be done under international law.

So when will this Reign of Terror-ism stop? Hopefully after the next election and the people wake up to realize that this cannot go on any longer.

I'll be back with some more tidbits of thought, research and ramblings to spark a little fire under your soft sweet American ass in an effort to get you off of it and participate in doing something right for your country. Re-establish your position as a member of the People's government - protected by your Constitution. You can no longer sit by and say "They!" because it's you. If you can bitch about it then you can also change it. If you're afraid of your elected government then you can now understand why our forefathers wrote the 2nd Amendment.

Until later....

INTRODUCTION

From the Desk of Uncle Jake
by Uncle Jake

Front Notes:
Just so you know up front...commentaries, articles, links and other related materials are added on this page from time to time without any particular order. So, if you're looking for something along those lines of 'what's new here' you'll just have to scroll around the page until you bump into it. The next paragraph explains all of this.

Welcome to my overly organized (to me) and well cluttered (to others) desk. Every now and then I will pull a page from the many piled and spread across it and shove it on in here. It just depends what's going on at the time that I'll scatter through everything and make a selection that just might be of some interest for the reader or the curiosity seeker.

This page was created to give more room to the Editorials page found on this site and to compile these works collectively in an effort not to confuse what I write with all the others...other writers that is. It has taken me awhile to do this but after about 40 pots of coffee, 106 burned-down candles and six or seven bags of BBQ potato chips here it is...the all new 'Commentaries' page which focuses on the mad rabblings and observations of Uncle Jake...that's me. Thanks for stopping by.

So what's this page all about? Commentaries. Fairly simple to figure that one out. Anyway, I write about things that are derived from conversations and observations had with people from our local community and from abroad that happen to visit our little hamlet tucked away in the quiet flatlands at the base of the Humboldt mountains.

Local issues and concerns are areas that many of us, locally anyway, would like to know more about. As of recent, we now have a newspaper to represent our local daily news. The Wells Progress in back with a new owner, Zachery Woodbury. He will be publishing a weekly paper that comes out every Friday. The Wells Progress is also offering subscriptions. If you're interested in one go to their web site and place your order. Here's their web address:
www.wellsprogress.com.

I will do my best to bring forward comments and questions made throughout our community in regards to how the news, locally and otherwise, generates comments from their effects....just so everyone can have half a chance of sorting out the facts from the fiction; the truth from the B.S. and holding down all those colorful rumors which plague little towns like ours and perhaps yours - if you live in a small town.

Now, I will tell you right off the top...I'm not always going to be able to paint a flowery picture for you to see as things just aren't always that way. I don't look at these things through rose-colored-glasses either. Reality is most often a cold hard slap in the face...something that strives to wake up the senses.

These expositions or illustrations are always open for comment from the readers and I would like to encourage you to do just that. Yep, it would be nice to hear what our readers have to say about what appears here. If you are one of those who are so paranoid about what others may have to say about you and don't want to give your real names when responding to something that I ramble on about then go ahead and be somebody else. Of course you should know by doing that you only add to the illusion between reality and fantasy and people won't always give much validity to things like that. If you feel that you want to say it and got to say it then go ahead and say it...but, at least tell us who you are. Quit being one of those chicken-s**t Americans that we've all dealt with from time to time that say nobody wants to hear what I have to say, or it doesn't pay to complain because nobody will listen anyway. Bulls**t. Say it. Exercise YOUR Constitutional Right under the 1st Amendment of Freedom of Speech and get it out...let's hear it. I remember a lesson from Political Science, (that also appeared in an episode of the Lone Ranger), which stated: 'The only way a democracy will work is when one participates in it'. Therefore, you just can't sit on the sidelines and holler 'I'm an American and I have rights!' Yeah, so what. What are you doing to exercise those rights?

There are, however, rules. Those who hold public office, either by election or apppointment, are open to public scrutinty and critizism along with journalists, writers, photographers, artists and so on, which can also include businesses depending on the circumstances, but, those who are private individuals are not open to these things unless they have knowingly violated the laws. In other words, even though you can say what you want you still have to be responsible for what you say and how you say it. Just put yourself in the other persons shoes before you open your mouth or twiddle the quill, stroke the pen or tap the keyboard.

I know that everybody is not going to agree with some of the things I select to write about and that's fine. We all have different opinions about stuff and we don't always see the sun come up, or go down, the same way. That's what makes us individuals and human and there's nothing wrong with that. I would be a total idiot instead of a partial one if I were to believe that everyone was going to believe everything I've got to say. I'm no different than anyone else when it comes to being effected by the issues that surround us on a daily basis - locally or on an international scale. Hell, some of you just might come right out and downright hate me. That would be your own short-coming though. There's enough hate in this world right now that we could probably fill up the Grand Canyon with it all. Seems like there is a lot of people who have never heard, 'Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me.' I only hope that my words do not hurt anyone, yet, I also hope that perhaps, just perhaps, they may cause you to think differently about the way you perceive the world you live in and maybe they will give you some insight as to what you can do as an individual to actually try and make things better. It's all worth a try. At least try. Don't always expect a pat on the back or a kind word for your efforts...just know that you did the best you could, don't give up, give someone a smile daily and know that you did the right thing.

I guess I should point out that most of what I write about is our Constitution and the living application of its content. One could say that I am a die-hard Constitutionalist - I believe in it, I live by it and I mention it in nearly all the things I talk about, so, if you find a lot of references made to it or about it just remember, you've been informed. Oh yeah, I am not trying to shed any new light on it or present any new interpretations of it either - it kinda' speaks for itself. I just wish everyone would really read it, especially those in our government, along with the history behind it.

Read on...
