The WEBMASTER's Profile
Hello curious travler and welcome to just one page flying around in my studio that you may be able to catch and read some relatively informative stuff...like scribbles and doodles.
Even though I began drawing and making things when I was a really little guy and had to either lay on the floor and spread my stuff all around me or sit on a pile of books to reach the table-top, my first real job as an artist was with Caxton Advertising Agency which was owned and operated by Paul R. Walker in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. I think I was about 23 years old then.
It was kind of funny as to how I got that job. I was just walking down the street and this guy popped out of this doorway and almost ran into me. It was Mr. Walker. He immediately apologized and then asked if my name was Jake. I insured him that it was and he then stated that he had seen my work at a couple of different art shows and that he liked what I did. I politely thanked him for the compliment and then he asked me if I would consider going to work for him. "Doing what?", I asked. "Art!", he exclaimed. He continued, "I own and operate an advertising agency just upstairs here," (he turned and pointed up to the second floor of the building he just came out of), and I am looking for good artists to work for me all the time. What do you think?" - "Well," I replied, "I don't know anything about advertising at all and I've never done that type of work." He looked at me rather seriously and stated with great conviction, "Like I said, I've seen your work and I want you to work for me. I will show you everything you'll need to know, well, almost everything. Yes or no?" Considering I wasn't really doing anything at the time I accepted. The rest has become history...and some, just really good memories. Thanks Paul.
While working for Caxton I expanded my abilities and experience as I learned marketing strategy, layout, concept, design, darkroom, print media in newspaper and magazine, project development, production and journalism, commercial off-set printing. I became a newspaper/tabloid web-press operator, learned to conceive and write commercial ad copy for radio and television along with doing storyboard and blue-screen. I also obtained my FCC Radio/Operators and Broadcastors license and went on from these aspects into putting them to work for several different companies throughout the United States. In these days one had to study, practice and actually take written tests as well as make a personal presentation of themselves before an FCC Board of Regulators in order to pass and qualify for the license. They (FCC), for some off-the-wall reason, no longer require a person to go through these tests and qualifications.
In regards to my personal works of art I enjoy historical themes created with mixed mediums of pencil, prisma and an ink/watercolor combination that is layered into a finishing touch of sharp lines, rich color and a lot of detail. I like the renaissance style and some of my work contains classic nudes. (Oh my goodness, humans presented the way the Great Master created them.)
The Master Leonardo Da Vinci I chose as my mentor when I was about 12 years old and, like Leonardo, when you look at one of my pieces you don't just look at it - you look into it, and into it again. My images will continue to take you deeper until you realize that you have been taken on an enormous journey without ever taking a step. Some of these pieces have taken me up to two years to complete and then there are others that, somehow, I manage to pop-out in a just a few minutes. One of my favorite comments to make when people ask me how I come up with the things I create, almost jokingly, is that I really don't draw anything, that the pencil does all the work and I just hold on for the ride.
I have given lectures in art at colleges and universities around the United States for a few years, mostly covering the creative atmosphere of the artist and their relationship to their work, and gave my last lectures through a request by the art director, Sarah Sweetwater (Campsey), of Northeastern Nevada Community College, now known as Great Basin College in the early 80's.
I opened my first studio under the name of 'Blue Unicorn Studio' in 1973 offering such services as outlined above and changed that name to the one it has now - Robinson Studio, in 1998.
For the most part, I only do my private work for personal pleasure but will take commercial jobs if it feels right or has a good cause behind it. Commercially I am less expensive than almost anybody around because I enjoy what I do, but, on the private level, that is, if I decide I want to sell any of this work at all, then I'm not so cheap. My work can go anywhere from $500 all the way up to $250,000 for one piece. I don't do production or prints on my private works and do not allow for it.
During the past 22 years I have been focusing most of my commercial background on creating web pages for the internet, primarily the WNOL - Wells, Nevada On Line site. I have been able to take this new medium and blend nearly all of my talents, skills and experience together under one show case.
Many areas throughout the world of art have progressed with the advancement of technology during the past 30 years. This arena has reached such a level that talented individuals from all age groups and walks of life are making their talents and crafts available to the entire world with a simple click of the mouse-button.
Now we find people with little or no talent in educational institutions, private and corporate businesses that do not have an art department, and even some that do, who can turn on their computers and, taking a few moments, sit down to create absolutely marvelous pieces of art on many different levels.
There are some really talented individuals and fantastic works out there, or more so, in here and it just keeps getting better.
Robinson Studio has evolved from the hardwood drawing tables that existed previously to these new visual experiences of this techno-art-revolution and continues to offer a large spectrum of talents, experience and services to those who are looking for that something special... something different.
The talent and skills that are the foundation of this Studio are able to bring to this new technical approach something that many of them lack... a background of real art... not computer generated images... but hand-drawn designs, illustrations and so forth that maintain the breath of creation not found in many, if not most, of the work being pumped out so fast that it loses its real value and purpose... leaving the true and pure artist in the shadows of oblivion.
Fortunately, not all of us will vanish so easily. We have learned to adapt, thus, absorbing these new techniques and mediums onto our drawing tables to create those pieces others only dream about. We love to hear the comments, "How did they do that?"
All of my clients are treated as the individual they are, regardless of whether or not they are a representative of a business, corporation or just a regular everyday Joe or Jane. Everyone is embraced with a warm atmosphere of personal attention and taken through every step of production to insure that what they want is what they get.
Art...that magical world of image and sound that opens the portals of wonder and takes one on an endless adventure of discovery and awakening within themselves and beyond to those places they never dreamed or imagined before.
Respectfully,
The WEBMASTER

There are probably more that I could have added to this list and, then again, would have served no real purpose other than creating such a long list of things that nobody would remember them anyway.
